Question About Private Gun Sales In Florida

I am considering selling an AK to a friend of mine and had a couple questions. It is my understanding that they basically hand you the money you hand them the gun, so long as the aren't underage or a felon or whatever.

However do you need to fill out some form of a bill of sale or anything? What would happen if they ended up using the gun in a crime? Obviously the latter is a long shot just want to avoid legal trouble whenever I can.

It never hurts to work up a bill of sale (receipt) for any transaction of any type. I cannot speak directly for FL as I've never lived there but my understanding is the method you outlined is sufficient. Depending on where you got the gun you may have registered it, in that case you might want to look at getting your name disassociated. Otherwise, it's just another FTF sale.

Pretty much wat SLV>GLD says. You don't really need to do anything. A bill of sale isn't a bad idea, but if you think it might put a damper on the relationship, another method I've heard of is just writing up a memo with the gun's specifics on it, stating who you sold it to and when - don't even need to bother with price and all that stuff. Then file the memo with your other important papers.

That way, if LE ever comes around asking about it, at the very least you'll be able to tell them when, and if you like, to whom, you sold it to.

No bill of sale

do you want a paper trail to your Firearms, I Don't
I won't buy one with a bill of sale or sell one as long as they have ID
and to the best of my knowledge they are not a felon, then there is nothing to worry about.

And 90% of my firearms are FTF in Florida and I have yet to come across
someone selling me a firearm asking for a bill of sale.

If it ends up being used in a crime and the cops come knocking, you shut the hell up and refer them to your lawyer.

This is true whether or not you generated a bill of sale.
